The Erasmus+ project E.L.So.M.C.I is now in its central phase. Past months the project consortium has been engaged in the development of the project materials and many actions have been made.
METHODOLOGICAL GUIDE
E.L.So.M.C.I project aims to teach English to people with MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) using songs as main tool. Learning a foreign language is, in fact, a good way to stimulate cognitive functions slowing down the cognitive decline. To do that people with MCI will be involved in workshops that, by using innovative approaches and methodologies, will help them learning English.
In the past month the consortium has finalized the training materials for the workshops that have been included in a Methodological Guide. This guide contains all information and educational materials to implement the workshops.
At the moment the workshops have already started in Greece, Spain, Croatia and Slovenia, while they will start in Italy next months.
TRAINING FOR TRAINERS
On the 6th of September 2021, E.L.So.M.C.I consortium organized the training for trainers session. Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty situation caused by the Corona virus emergency, it wasn’t possible to organize a physical meeting so the consortium jointed on line. The main objectives of the training session were:
– training and empowering professionals’ knowledge and skills entailed in workshops with people with mild cognitive impairment;
– introducing professionals to creative learning methods of English language and songs;
– explaining the different typologies of workshops and how to implement them.
The Greek partner, responsible for the workshops’ implementation, presented in detail the purpose of the workshops, the participants’ profile, and shared practical information about the recruitment process and the evaluation procedures.
In that occasion all participants had the chance to become familiar with the workshops methodology and materials and acquired competencies to implement workshops. At the end of the day 16 people have been trained and are now ready to start the workshops addressed to people with mild cognitive impairment.
2nd TRANSNATIONAL PARTNER MEETING
The second Transnational partner meeting was organized online by Alzheimer Valencia on the 7th of September 2021.
The meeting started with an overview of the project, made by the coordinator, including achieved results, expected outcomes and upcoming tasks. Then the consortium focused on development of workshops’ methodology and videos to be used to teach English songs and their implementation. After that partners agreed on the upcoming tasks about the development of the e-learning course. The meeting ended with an update on dissemination activities, a discussion about administrative and financial management, project evaluation and the upcoming tasks and deadlines.
Next steps
The next steps of E.L.So.M.C.I project will focus on the creation of an e-learning platform and an online training course about mild cognitive impairment, how teaching English using songs and how to implement the workshops.
